CHALLENGE

Long-time client Space Advisory Company (SAC) approached Simera to deliver a remote-sensing optical payload for a satellite with a fixed launch date. The part of the payload that focuses the light was required to have flight heritage and be able to operate in high resolution.

SOLUTION

Simera had achieved the objective of an optical design for space as part of a previous mission. The part of the payload that focuses the light was required to have flight heritage and be able to withstand harsh launch vibration environments. Through judiciously chosen altered design features to meet significantly more stringent environmental load specifications from the client, flight heritage, as based on critical aspects of the primary optical functions of the design, remains valid.

OUTCOME

Simera developed the adapted design and delivered a fully integrated, optically tested system that is flight ready. The lessons learned from the heritage design assisted in the improvement of this design and its integration.
